Laxman Savadi resigned from the BJP on Wednesday after the organization excluded him off the first list of 189 candidates for Karnataka.

By Apoorva Jayachandran and Nagarjun Dwarakanath: Laxman Savadi, a former BJP politician and deputy chief minister of Karnataka, switched parties on Friday after the saffron party refused to provide him a ticket for the state election on May 10. “I have had it with the BJP. Right before he joined the Congress, he declared, “My dead body shouldn’t be carried in front of the BJP’s office once I die.

Savadi resigned from the BJP on Wednesday after the organization excluded him off the first list of 189 candidates for Karnataka. After being denied the ticket for the Athani constituency, he resigned from both his positions in the Legislative Council and the BJP’s core membership.

Despite our political disagreements, the Congress leaders welcomed me with open arms when I approached them about joining the party, and I am thankful for the same, Savadi remarked.

“I requested a chance to run in the future elections from the senior BJP leaders. After leaving the BJP, I am quite glad to join the Congress party today,” he continued.

Savadi pledged to provide the Congress and “those who have entrusted me with the opportunity” his best effort.

“I am unfamiliar with adjustment politics… In the BJP, I worked with shradhdha (devotion). I want to stress that I will work in the same capacity as a member of the Congress party,” he stated.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai expressed his sadness over Savadi joining the Congress by saying, “I feel extremely sad about Laxman Savadi. This occurs frequently in politics. He went to Congress as a result of seeing a political future there. But in 60 constituencies, there is no candidate for the Congress. They have therefore hired some individuals. However, they will not be advantageous to the party.

The desire for tickets in the ruling party is great, according to Bommai, who was speaking about the uprising and resignations within the party over seats. To become MLAs, some people switched parties. However, the party’s genuine supporters would not defect. The third list will be made public as soon as feasible by the BJP. Tomorrow, I’ll submit the nomination.

Savadi announced his departure by saying, “I have decided. I don’t walk around with a bowl filled with coins. I am an honorable politician. I don’t have anyone influencing my actions.

Savadi, a supporter of BS Yediyurappa, was regarded as one of the most powerful Lingayat leaders after Yediyurappa. He was defeated by Mahesh Kumtahalli, a Congress candidate, in the 2018 elections.
