Following its 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Tuesday, Chelsea dropped to 12th place in the standings and is now headed for its worst season since the 1993–1994 campaign.

Raheem Sterling said that Chelsea’s poor play this year has been one of his career’s low periods, but he thinks the Premier League squad will eventually be stronger as a result of the difficulties.

Despite significant player spending, including Sterling’s transfer from Manchester City for 47.5 million pounds ($60 million), Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Arsenal on Tuesday left them 12th in the rankings and teetering towards its worst season since the 1993–94 season.

The England international has only scored seven goals in 34 appearances for Chelsea, unable to match the form that made him an important member of a squad that won ten major titles.

“In my opinion, this is one of my lowest times in my professional life. This may sound a little strange, but it is also a tremendous learning curve,” Sterling said in an interview with Sky Sports that was released on Saturday.

“It’s been pretty easy going winning, winning, winning, but sometimes in life stuff gets thrown at you and it is a challenge that I’m looking forward to, hitting it head on and not trying to hide from it,” the speaker said.
