Dodda Ganesh, a former Indian bowler, criticized KL Rahul harshly for his strategy, calling it “the most terrible innings played in the history of the IPL.”

Despite leading his team to a stunning last-ball victory at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, KL Rahul, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, was criticized for his painstaking 20-ball innings against Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL 2023 encounter. LSG skipper KL Rahul hit 18 runs off of 20 balls with a strike rate of 90 in a T20 encounter when 213 was chased down. In the high-scoring game, he was the only batter (with more than 10 balls) to have scored at a strike rate below 125. Rahul just managed one boundary during his spell in the middle despite batting during the powerplay in the 213-run chase.

LSG had no chance at all of winning the game if it weren’t for some incredible hitting from Marcus Stoinis (65 off 30) and Nicholas Pooran (62 off 19). Dodda Ganesh, a former Indian bowler, criticized Rahul harshly for his strategy, calling it “the most terrible innings played in the history of the IPL.

KL Rahul did not fire a single shot in the penalty area while pursuing 213. I have no idea what’s on his mind. You can’t bat like this, period, tweeted Doda.

“Given the circumstances of the match, KL Rahul’s innings has to rank as the most abhorrent one ever played in the IPL. Man. What is he thinking? Seriously. At this level, this can’t continue for very long. He said, “It’s not school cricket.

Although the asking rate was high, Rahul batted subduedly in the first six overs despite the loss of LSG’s in-form opener Kyle Mayers and all-arounder Krunal Pandya for ducks, as well as the dismissal of Deepak Hooda for just nine runs.

“My strike rate will rise if I score more runs. I considered the circumstances, and I believed I had acted appropriately. After LSG’s one-wicket victory, Rahul expressed his hope that the strike rate would increase with a few strong performances.

Rahul has scored 2,265 runs at a strike rate of 139.12 in the 72 T20Is he has played, while his overall strike rate in the shortest format is merely 136.93. His success percentage is more about catching up at the very end.

Rahul’s prolonged presence at the crease ultimately increased the pressure on players like Pooran and Ayush Badoni to increase the run pace. Marcus Stoinis, who entered the game at No. 5, was forced to go for the big shots right away and crushed a 30-ball 65 to give the innings some energy.

In the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where Rahul played the most of his formative years of cricket, he stated, “Given the situation we were in, we were chasing 210-plus and we knew we had to go hard and attack. Nonetheless, doing that can occasionally result in wicket losses. It’s Chinnaswamy, therefore it’s unreal. As I was born and raised here, I believe it to be the stadium with the most last-ball victories.

“They (RCB) bowled brilliantly and swung it nicely during the powerplay. Nonetheless, thanks to Stoinis and Pooran’s performances, we earned our two points today.

Badoni contributed with a 30 off 24 score.

“If you look at the middle order, Nos. 5, 6, and 7, they win you the crucial games,” Rahul continued. The top order will score most of the runs, but it’s the positions that count, so we gave Pooran, Stoinis, and Badoni power investments. Badoni is also learning how to win games.
