At WWE Backlash 2023, Cody Rhodes defeated a bloodied Brock Lesnar with a pinning combination after breaking free of the Kimura lock to start his comeback.

WWE made a big deal out of Cody Rhodes defeating Lesnar in a number of Cody Rhodes promotional pieces. Rhodes said on this past week’s episode of Raw that if he loses to Lesnar, he will be forced to wait in line, just like he did when he eliminated himself from contention for the AEW World Championship by losing to Jericho at AEW Full Gear 2019.

In a backstage promo featured in his WWE Backlash promo video, Rhodes stated, “I’m the one that has to win at Backlash, because if I don’t the whole idea of finishing the story ceases to exist.”

WWE is attempting to reopen Rhodes’ window in an effort to complete the story and offer wrestling fans a genuinely memorable moment at the height of the sport.

The plot never alters in the WWE. The drama continues on Raw tomorrow night in front of a packed house at the Crypto Arena. We’ve just reached the chapter’s conclusion. While justifying WWE’s idiotic choice to defeat Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39, Triple H said, “But the tale continues, and that is where the story gets intriguing to me. In a “story” where Eric Bischoff simply handed him the belt like it was a Costco sample, tale aficionado Triple H once won the recently revived WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Triple H added a third global championship in the form of the WWE global Heavyweight Championship as a result of WWE prolonging its once-simple Cody Rhodes tale. Seth Rollins, who is arguably WWE’s most one-dimensional character, is currently the favorite to win the new title despite the fact that the only stories this character has told in recent months are the melodies of his catchy theme song. This is despite the fact that many people defended absentee champion Roman Reigns keeping his title in Inglewood under the justification that Cody Rhodes hasn’t faced enough adversity.

Because Cody Rhodes would have to take on Brock Lesnar, there was suspicion that he may be defeated by the Beast Incarnate, just like top performers John Cena and Kofi Kingston had been since Lesnar returned to WWE in 2012.

With the Cody Rhodes character, which WWE continues to overthink despite his historically strong run as a babyface, a Lesnar victory would have been yet another perplexing choice.

Great babyfaces don’t just appear overnight. Despite all of his skills, WWE failed horribly in its attempt to turn Reigns into a top babyface. Even John Cena encountered conflicting to unfavorable reactions for the majority of his run. It’s wise to go without hesitation or second-guessing if a babyface appeals to today’s more erratic wrestling crowd. After losing several significant matches in 2020, WWE had something going with Drew McIntyre. However, with his days as a prominent babyface long behind him, McIntyre may or may not be leaving WWE. Drew is not to fault. And if WWE insists on prolonging Cody Rhodes’ saga for the purpose of adversity, I wouldn’t hold it against Rhodes if he decided to leave the region the next time he had the option, much as the decision he made after being treated disrespectfully by the fans of AEW.

Rhodes will now focus on winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after his victory. On Monday night, the world title tournament will begin on WWE Raw with two Triple Threat matches, with the winners facing off in the main event. Although no competitors have been revealed, Cody Rhodes is very certainly going to participate.
