A team representative confirmed on Wednesday morning that former Steelers outside linebacker and Super Bowl winner Clark Haggans passed away at the age of 46.

In a press release, the Larimer County coroner’s office stated that it had been called to a Fort Collins, Colorado, residence on Monday to look into the death of a man named Haggans. The coroner’s office reported that an autopsy was finished on Wednesday, but the reason and manner of death are still under investigation. Nothing suspicious was found.

Clark Haggans, a former outside linebacker for the Steelers and Super Bowl champion, passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 46, a team representative said.

According to a press statement from the Larimer County Coroner’s Office, on Monday, they went to a home in Fort Collins, Colorado, to look into the death of a man they had identified as Haggans. The reason and manner of death are still under investigation after an autopsy was performed on Wednesday, according to the coroner’s office. There was no sign of wrongdoing.

Haggans, who was selected by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL Draught out of Colorado State, played for eight seasons in Pittsburgh and started with former teammate Joey Porter in the Super Bowl XL victory against the Seattle Seahawks in 2006. Haggans finished the game with five tackles and a sack of quarterback Matt Hasselbeck on the first drive, capping up a season in which he had a career-high nine sacks and four forced fumbles.

During his final four seasons in Pittsburgh, Haggans was a full-time starter. He concluded his Steelers career with 1 interception, 12 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 332 tackles, and 32.5 sacks.

After playing for Pittsburgh, Haggans spent four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before calling it quits in 2012 following one last season with the San Francisco 49ers. He was elected into the school’s hall of fame in 2015 and now owns the record for most career sacks at Colorado State with 33.
