Jurrien Timber said of the transfer rumours between Manchester United and Liverpool: “Quite a lot is happening.”
The 21-year-old was wanted by Manchester United last summer but decided against reuniting with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford because he thought staying at Ajax would help his chances of playing at the World Cup, which turned out to be true.
This summer, Timber is expected to be the target of renewed interest from United, Liverpool, and Serie A champions Napoli, among a growing list of suitors.
Timber has already stated that he would consider his options in the summer. However, he has already spoken to Ajax’s new football director Sven Mislintat and is open to staying at the club, even if they do not make the Champions League.
He said: “I met him here at De Toekomst [Ajax’s training facility] and then we spoke briefly and one-on-one.” in a statement to the Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad.
“He spoke more with my agent,” I said. I believe Ajax intends to keep me here.
It’s difficult for me to comment on it beyond that, though. There will be discussions regarding this soon.
‘I’m again in the same circumstances as last year,’ Timber said in reference to the rumoured competition among some of Europe’s top clubs to recruit him.
I’m not sure if I’ll take such action right away. I’m happy to be at Ajax. You are always welcome to appear here.
