Following the knock, Vaughan tweeted that Kohli was the “best in the world,” but the ex-RCB captain’s favorite cricketer responded appropriately.
Virat Kohli put on another chasing masterclass in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL 2023 season opener against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Kohli’s 82* at M Chinnaswamy Stadium capped off a perfect homecoming for RCB, who won by an eight-wicket margin against MI. Following the knock, former England captain Michael Vaughan tweeted that Kohli was the “best in the world,” but the ex-RCB captain’s favorite cricketer responded appropriately.

In response to a 172-run target at home, RCB got off to a stunning start, with openers Kohli and Faf du Plessis stitching a record 148-run stand, with both batters reaching half-centuries. Skipper Faf was out at the tail end of the chase, but Kohli finished the game in style, hitting a six as RCB won with 22 balls to spare.

Kohli batted unbeaten for 82 runs off 49 balls, hitting six boundaries and five sixes. It was his 50th half-century plus knock in IPL history, making him the only Indian batter and the second overall after David Warner.

After the game, Vaughan was in awe of Kohli, who praised both the batter and the RCB. “At his best, he is still the best player in the world to watch,” he tweeted. @imVkohli makes batting look effortless… @RCBTweets appears to be dangerous!!! #IPL2023.”

In response to Vaughan’s words, Kohli’s favorite cricketer, Herschelle Gibbs, the former South African cricketer, tweeted, “Even when he’s not at his best, there’s still nobody better currently than Virat.”

A video of Kohli was shown on the first day of India’s match at the 2008 ICC U-19 World Cup. Each player was required to introduce themselves and name their favorite cricketer. And, while later in his career he admitted to idolizing Sachin Tendulkar, during the U-19 World Cup video, Kohli stated that his favorite cricketer was Gibbs.
