‘There is no provision in the Constitution for religious discrimination,’ says Amit Shah
In an attack on Congress’ polarized politics, Shah claimed that Congress never commemorated the martyrs of independence because of vote bank greed.
Following the removal of 4% OBC reservation for Muslims in Karnataka, Union Home Minister Amit Shah lashed out at the Congress on Sunday, claiming that there is no provision in the Constitution for religious reservation.
The Karnataka government scrapped the 4% OBC reservation for Muslims in a cabinet meeting on Friday and redistributed it to two dominant communities, Veerashaiva-Lingayats and Vokkaligas.
It also decided to move OBC Muslims into the 10% Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category.
Shah dedicated the ‘Garota Shaheed Smarak’ and a memorial to Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. He also raised a 103-foot-high national flag in Karnataka.
“Reservations provided to the minority were not in accordance with the Constitution,” Shah said at a public meeting in poll-bound Karnataka. There is no provision in the Constitution for religious discrimination.”
“Because of its polarization politics, the Congress Government provided reservation to the minority.” “The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) abolished that reservation and provided reservations to the Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities,” Shah added.
Attacking Congress’ polarized politics, Shah claimed that Congress never remembered the martyrs of independence and ‘Hyderabad mukti’ in its greed for votes.
“Because of Congress’ polarization politics, in their greed for the vote bank, they never commemorated the people who sacrificed themselves for independence and ‘Hyderabad mukti,'” Shah said.
“Hyderabad would not have achieved independence if Sardar Patel had not been present.” Amit Shah added that Bidar would not have achieved independence either.
“In this Gorata village, hundreds of people were killed by the army of a cruel Nizam for hoisting just a 2.5-ft tall Tricolor,” Shah said. Today, I can proudly say that we raised a 103-foot-tall Tricolour that can’t be hidden from anyone on the same land.”
Shah said during the unveiling of a 20-foot-tall statue of Sardar Patel and Garota Shaheed Smarak in memory of the country’s first Home Minister that the statue is a symbol of the significant role played by the country’s first Home Minister.
“On the same land, a memorial to those immortal martyrs has been erected.” This 20-foot-tall statue of Sardar Patel commemorates the pivotal role he played in deposing the Nizam of Hyderabad. That is why this area, this Bidar, could become a part of India,” Shah explained.
